The method

What we teach.
And what it does for you.

The premise

You were never taught how to think.

Most people are not failing at life because they lack effort, ambition or character. They are failing because nobody ever taught them the most important skill there is: how to think.

What nobody teaches, anywhere, at any age, is the actual cognitive architecture. How thoughts work. How decisions are made. How problems are solved. How beliefs are formed. How attention is captured and lost. How emotions interact with reasoning. And what you can do about any of it.

The Human Tools™ Experience is the only place that does. A 120-day cognitive skills programme (5 days live, then 115 days of integration) that teaches the science of how thinking actually works. Built from the primary literature, taught as portable skills, measured with validated assessments.

What everyone else teaches
  • 01Schools teach you what to think about.
  • 02Universities teach you what other people thought.
  • 03Therapy treats you when thinking goes wrong.
  • 04Coaching helps you set goals you will abandon by April.
  • 05Human Tools™ teaches you how thinking actually works.
What gets taught

Five days. Forty-plus frameworks.

01

Foundations

How the brain generates experience.

The six fundamental needs every human is constantly trying to meet. The four-stage model of learning. The architecture of action, motivation and persistence. The inhibition you were taught versus the disinhibition you were born with. The distinction between thoughts and thinking. The wanting trap. The nine basic emotions. Your values, properly clarified, not aspirational.

By the end of Day 01 you can

Name what is actually driving you. Tell a thought apart from thinking. Say what you value instead of what you think you should.

02

The cognitive engine

Beliefs, attention, and the architecture of bias.

Why beliefs are the primary driver of all human behaviour. How to identify your own core beliefs, including the ones operating beneath your awareness. The science of attention and the limits of awareness. The control, influence, concern distinction that ends most chronic stress. Albert Ellis's ABC and ABCDE models. The ten cognitive distortions that are doing your thinking for you when you are not looking.

By the end of Day 02 you can

See the belief underneath the reaction. Catch your own bias while it is happening. Stop burning energy on what you cannot control.

03

Learning to think

Six structured thinking tools, taught in sequence.

Logical fallacies and how to spot them in your own reasoning. The 5W+H deep enquiry method, advantage and disadvantage analysis, Edward de Bono's Six Thinking Hats, the principle of inversion, the PMI scan, and parallel thinking. This is the day most participants realise they have been arguing with themselves for years using fundamentally flawed reasoning.

By the end of Day 03 you can

Take any decision or argument apart from six angles, and find the option you were blind to.

04

Problem solving

The D'Zurilla and Nezu cycle, end to end.

The full D'Zurilla and Nezu problem solving cycle, the most evidence-validated problem solving intervention in the clinical literature. How to define a problem properly, generate alternatives without prematurely judging them, decide between options under uncertainty, and implement with feedback. The four obstacles that defeat most problem solving attempts. The behavioural barriers between intention and action.

By the end of Day 04 you can

Face any problem with a method instead of a mood. This is the change we measure, and it is the one that moves most.

05

Integration

Behaviour change, properly engineered.

Goal setting that actually works: the SMART framework, properly integrated with values and behavioural triggers. Implementation intentions, Gollwitzer's IF-THEN protocol, the highest-leverage behaviour change technique in the empirical literature. Acceptance and committed action. Habit architecture. Self-compassion. The five day arc gets consolidated into a single integrated cognitive operating system.

By the end of Day 05 you can

Turn intention into behaviour that survives real life, instead of a plan you abandon by February.

40+

Distinct cognitive frameworks.Five days. One integrated system.

The integration

Five days to learn it. 115 to make it yours.

Day 1Day 5Day 120
Days 1 to 5

Live, in the room

Five days with one cohort and one trained team. You learn every framework and practise each one under guidance. This is where knowing begins.

Days 6 to 120

Online integration

115 days of guided practice online. A live online lesson every two weeks and an online forum once a month keep you accountable. Experience Lite has 30 days of integration. Then a graduation dinner. This is where knowing becomes doing.

Where it comes from

Built from the primary literature.

Not adapted from any single book. Not built around any single guru's philosophy. A synthesis across primary sources in cognitive psychology, behavioural economics, problem solving science and clinical psychotherapy. Here is each one, and what it does for you.

Cognitive therapy

Aaron T. Beck

You catch the thought before it runs you. Name the distortion and it loses its grip.

REBT

Albert Ellis

You stop the shoulds and musts that beat you up, and get a method to argue back at your own head.

Problem solving therapy

D'Zurilla & Nezu

You get one repeatable way to face any problem instead of freezing or avoiding it. This is the change we measure.

Lateral thinking

Edward de Bono

You stop attacking a problem from one angle, and start seeing the option you were blind to.

ACT

Steven C. Hayes

You stop fighting the thought. You hold it lightly and do what matters anyway.

Behaviour change

Peter Gollwitzer

You stop relying on willpower. You build an if-then plan that fires on its own.

Habit science

Wood & Neal

You see the habits running you on autopilot, and learn to change the cue instead of blaming yourself.

Social influence

Robert Cialdini

You see why you copy the room. Then you get to choose for yourself.

Behavioural economics

Kahneman & Tversky

You catch your fast brain making a lazy call, and learn when to slow down.

Clinical translation

David Burns

You get a plain-language name for every thinking error, so you can spot yours the moment it fires.

Socratic method

Judith Beck

You learn to question your own thinking the way a therapist would, without needing one in the room.

Self-compassion

Kristin Neff

You stop treating yourself worse than you would treat anyone you love. That is what makes the change stick.

Twelve primary sources. Five days. One integrated curriculum.

How it compares

You have other options. Here is the honest comparison.

Pick a programme to see what it gives you, and what you get here instead.

Robbins teaches

State management

UPW is 4 days of high-arousal state management. Date with Destiny is 6 days of purpose clarification. Both produce powerful experiences. Neither teaches cognitive skills as a measured intervention. Robbins is in the motivation business. We are in the cognitive skills business. Many participants do both.
Human Tools™ teaches

The cognitive architecture

We are in the skills business, not the motivation business. After the feeling fades, the skills do not.
Hoffman teaches

Family patterning

A 7-day residential programme focused on family-of-origin patterning and emotional release. 60+ years of practice and published research. It works deep on one specific layer of human experience. The two are complementary. Some of our participants have done Hoffman.
Human Tools™ teaches

The cognitive architecture

We work the cognitive architecture that sits underneath family patterning.
Landmark teaches

Linguistic frames

Three days of linguistic distinctions, the way language shapes possibility. No measurement, decades of practice, divisive but real. A different paradigm entirely.
Human Tools™ teaches

The cognitive architecture

Built from the primary literature, not from one person's philosophy. Measured with validated assessments.
Mindvalley teaches

Online library

An online library of personal development courses with optional live retreats. At $399 a year, it is the best-value introduction to the category. Not a measured, structured, in-room cognitive skills intervention.
Human Tools™ teaches

The cognitive architecture

Online video does not install skill the way 50 hours in a room with a trained team does. Different format, different intensity, different outcome.
Vipassana teaches

Silent meditation

Ten days of silent meditation. No instruction. No curriculum. A contemplative method, not a cognitive education. Many of our participants meditate. None of them learned how to think from meditating.
Human Tools™ teaches

The cognitive architecture

Taught as portable skills. You leave with what you came for.
Exec Ed teaches

Business frameworks

GIBS, Henley, Harvard, INSEAD and Stanford d.school teach business frameworks: strategy, finance, leadership, design thinking. Most senior people we work with have stacks of exec ed certificates. They came to us because nobody had taught them how their own mind works.
Human Tools™ teaches

The cognitive architecture

The cognitive infrastructure underneath all business decision making.
Therapy teaches

Clinical treatment

One-to-one, clinical, aimed at treating diagnosable conditions over months or years. The evidence base overlaps significantly. The application could not be more different.
Human Tools™ teaches

The cognitive architecture

Group, educational, aimed at teaching cognitive skills to high-functioning people in five days.
A 12-week CBT cert. teaches

Clinical CBT

Comparable cognitive ground in 100+ hours of supervised practice, aimed at clinicians treating diagnosable conditions. We do not replace clinical training.
Human Tools™ teaches

The cognitive architecture

The same cognitive ground, taught as education to high-functioning adults, in 5 days plus 115 days of structured integration.
The difference that matters

Pay on results.

Every programme above asks you to pay before you know whether it worked. One does not. You put down a deposit. We prove it works. You pay for the results.

Why this is unprecedented

Three reasons this works when other things haven't.

1

The synthesis

Nobody else teaches across twelve primary sources. Everyone else runs one school. Robbins runs Robbins. Landmark runs Landmark. CBT runs Beck or Ellis. We run all of them, sequenced, integrated, taught as a single curriculum that fits together.

2

The depth

Forty-plus distinct cognitive frameworks in five days is not a typical short-course density. It is closer to the content load of a master's-level cognitive certificate, compressed through an architecture of memorable teaching units that survive consolidation.

3

The measurement

Every cohort is independently measured using validated assessments: SPSI-R:S NPO, PHQ-9, GAD-7 and CD-Quest. The personal development industry does not measure outcomes this way. We do, because we built the programme to be measured.

Nowhere else do you get all three together.
